Light-weight and robust paediatric walking supports increases mobility and therefore increases muscle strength. Walking aids that embrace, enhance and encourage the child's independent mobility.
The paediatric walking solutions can be configured and adjusted to each child. This can provide the child with the support needed to be active and participate, while allowing the child to develop new functional abilities.
Gaining the abilities needed for walking
Our product solutions aim to support children in gaining the abilities needed for walking. These are stability in the standing phase, foot clearance in the swing phase, positioning of the foot prior to floor contact, adequate step length and energy-saving movements. This is done by providing the child with support for the upper extremities (Crocodile), trunk and pelvis region (Mustang, Pony), and perhaps also for the lower extremities, head and neck region.
The target users of our solutions are wide-ranging. From children with severe impairments, where comprehensive support enables the child to move for shorter distances with adult support, to children with mild to moderate impairments, where use of the product solution enables the child to walk most distances and to participate in sports. Another goal could be to increase the time spent on physical activity, thereby minimising the risk of developing secondary consequences of the original health condition.
Individual product solutions and accessories
The individual product solution will often be configured with accessories. The accessories should be evaluated and changed, if necessary, on a regular basis. This will ensure the child the right amount of support, if there are changes in their health condition or functional abilities. An example is a child who becomes more stable in the standing phase of walking and therefore no longer needs the support from the straps for side support. It could also be a child with a progressive health condition who at some point needs more support, which could be from a forearm support with handgrip.
