Day 2 - Lecture Theatre 1 - 11:30 – 12:00

F-Words in the Bathroom: Using the ICF to Guide Bathroom Participation from Childhood to Adulthood with Physical Disabilities.

Our speaker for this session is Linda Keogh, a Senior Occupational Therapist and Educational Consultant specialising in paediatrics, complex needs, and sensory integration.

Bathrooms are small spaces with big challenges for people with physical disabilities and those who support them. Linda uses the F-Words for Child Development (Function, Family, Fitness, Fun, Friends, Future), grounded in the ICF framework, to reframe bathing and toileting as meaningful occupations that evolve from childhood to adulthood. Through case-based examples, attendees will explore how occupational therapy reasoning can anticipate transitions, protect dignity, and reduce carer strain.

Learning Objectives

·        A clear understanding of the ICF and F-Words frameworks, applied to bathroom practice.

·        How to reframe toileting and bathing as participation-focused occupations, not just hygiene tasks.

·        How to link clinical reasoning to carer safety, postural support, and energy conservation.

·        Practical case studies show how Etac Products can support bathroom participation from childhood to adulthood.
